Interview with Amanda Duncan

1. How did you first begin to get into music and why?

Well, I've been singing ever since I was a little girl. I had my first solo in 5th grade singing "It's My Party". I think it's something that has always been in me. I picked up the guitar when I was a junior in high school and started writing songs (that were pretty bad....haha!). I think the reason I started playing guitar was that I wanted to be able to sing something that came from me. I was tired of singing along with the radio. Karaoke is fun, but just didn't cut it. Then once I started playing guitar I realized how much I wanted to learn how to play every instrument! So far I play guitar, mandolin, and banjo. I think piano might be next.

1. Where did you get the name Select Start?

We got it from an old contra code that went 'up, up, down, down, left, right, left, right, b, a, select, start'.

Interview with The Downtown Fiction

1. Where did the name The Downtown Fiction come from?

Eric and I (Cameron) we're randomly walking through a blockbuster in Summer 08 thinking of band names. We came across Pulp Fiction, which is one of our favorite flicks, and we knew we just had to incorporate that in somehow. And The Downtown Fiction really just kind of hit us. It has a lot of cool, underlying meaning without being really in your face. We wanted a name that didn't have too much to it, where the music could shape its identity instead of the name defining us.
